Chiroptics
PD Dr. Aras Kartouzian studied Materials Science and Engineering in Tehran, Iran, before earning his Master's in Advanced Materials at Ulm University. He obtained his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and later joined Oxford University as an International Newton Fellow of The Royal Society. In 2019, he completed his habilitation in Physical Chemistry at TUM, where he has since been a group leader at the School of Natural Sciences. His research focuses on linear and nonlinear (chiroptical) spectroscopy across various states of matter, including gas, liquid, surfaces, and interfaces.
PD Dr. Kartouzian specializes in the spectroscopic investigation of cluster-assembled functional materials and chiral functional materials. His research includes developing high-sensitivity linear and nonlinear spectroscopy methods, exploring chirality transfer and induced circular dichroism, and studying light-matter interactions in asymmetric systems, as well as chiral interactions in engineering and biological applications. His group primarily focuses on fundamental scientific challenges in heterogeneous catalysis, spintronics, and photoinduced processes related to energy harvesting and conversion.
