Specialization in Theoretical Chemistry in the Master's Program in Chemistry
Have you always wanted to truly understand chemical concepts rather than just memorize them? Are you aware that computers can be used for much more than just the internet and video games? Are you even excited by the idea of performing calculations on the world's largest supercomputers or explaining experimental results to experimentalists? Then a Master's degree in Chemistry with a focus on Theory might be just right for you!
In addition to their traditional role in concept formation, computer-aided modeling and simulation are experiencing a dramatic rise to become an equivalent pillar alongside experimental synthesis and characterization. In many areas of modern materials research, quantitative modeling is increasingly becoming an indispensable partner. This is particularly true for important fields such as heterogeneous catalysis, electrochemistry, and energy research, which are three key research areas at the Technical University of Munich.
The courses we offer at the master's level cover these areas in their entirety, ranging from foundational concepts and methods to modern applications of these methods in current research. Reflecting the international composition of the research groups, all master's level lectures, seminars, and colloquia are, of course, conducted in English. By additionally choosing Theoretical Chemistry as your second major focus, you also have the opportunity to concentrate predominantly on theoretical concepts and methods during your master's studies.
