Academic resume:
Dr. Christine Khoury earned her doctoral degree in 2021 from Technion Israel Institute of Technology, under the supervision of Prof. Oz M. Gazit, in the field of cooperative catalysis. During her PhD studies, she gained experience in material preparation and surface characterization techniques and was actively involved in teaching.
She joined the Chair as a postdoctoral fellow in 2025
Research Topic:
Photocatalytic ammonia synthesis is an emerging zero carbon emission technology. However, the adsorption and activation of the N2 molecule on the photocatalyst surface is a great challenge due to its intrinsically inert properties. To boost the efficiency of the reaction, highly active photocatalysts should be designed. For the rational design of photocatalysts for ammonia synthesis, the mechanism and reaction pathways for N2 fixation should be investigated. The current project aims to study the photocatalytic nitrogen fixation over modified layered-double-hydroxides-based materials. The goal of the proposed research is to understand the role of the chemical environment surrounding the surface defect in the photocatalytic activation of nitrogen towards ammonia, using LDH-based materials as a tool for tailoring the defect concentration and environment.
