Research Areas

The group is working on the synthesis of new transition metal- and rare earth fluorides using elemental fluorine and various other fluorinating agents. The structural, optic, electronic and magnetic properties of these fluorides are characterized employing a broad methodology. The fluorides are used as starting materials for the synthesis of nitride fluorides which should have interesting applications as ferroelectrics, transparent glass ceramics with optoelectronic features or as fluoride ion conductors.
