The current research is concerning the fusion of two different fields: First, the synthesis, characterization and reactivity of group 14 metallocene cations such as [Cp*M][B(C₆F₅)₄] (M = Ge, Si) and similar main group metal compounds. Secondly, their reactivity towards or combined with nonagermane Zintl-clusters K_4-n[Ge₉R_n]. The syntheses require air-free solid state and solution-based methods, i.e. Schlenk techniques. The analytic methods are varied, with an emphasis on NMR spectroscopy and SCXRD.
