Nanostructured Group 14 semiconductors attract significant attention because of a broad range of potential applications. We describe a general and controllable fabrication method for Ge nanomorphologies with tunable composition using the controlled reaction of [Ge9]4− Zintl clusters to a solid germanium phase.
