The e-Conversion Subgroup

We work on the application of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for energy conversion. Our MOF-based catalysts show an outstanding electrocatalytic performance towards the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Another example involved a MOF-templated approach towards developing platinum nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution which exhibits a superior electrocatalytic activity for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Some of our ongoing research targets synergistic MOF-molecular photosystems host-guest associations as well as rational tuning of MOF ligands and nodes towards electrocatalytic processes. Our current projects include:

  • water-splitting electrocatalysis
  • light-driven carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2R) photocatalysis
  • atom-precise nanoparticle (NP) templating
  • engineered molecular hosting nanoreactors
  • novel deposition techniques for highly ordered thin-film and active surface-anchored MOFs (SURMOFs).

Our research is typically supported by a wide range of ex-situ and in-situ characterisation techniques to understand the growth, functionalisation and (photo)electrochemical performance of our materials. We strive with the help of many national and international collaborators for time-resolved spectroscopy, sophisticated deposition techniques and materials to lead to higher discoveries!
