A good start to the New Year!

With a paper on titanium complexes of Zintl ions cresting the cover of Angewandte Chemie.

Like the seeds of a blowball are distributed in the air, fragments of transition-metal tin-cluster complexes are found in solution. The clusters form from nonastannide Zintl anions and Cp2TiCl2 in liquid ammonia. Depending on the reaction conditions, clusters of eight and nine tin atoms are captured and stabilized by Ti atoms. The largest isolated cluster contains 4 titanium and 15 tin atoms with one Ti atom exclusively bound to ten Sn atoms. Cover art designed by D. Marchand Fässler.
