Research Topic: Systematic evaluation of carboxylate-linker based metal-organic frameworks for applications as electrocatalysts
As energy demand and dependance of fossil fuels grows, shifting to renewable energy sources is essential. Electrocatalytic technologies, like water-splitting to produce green hydrogen, are promising but face challenges like slow kinetics, high costs and limited catalyst durability.
Metal-organic-frameworks (MOFs) are promising catalyst candidates in that regard, due to their tunable properties, with recent studies highlighting their potential for oxygen evolution reactions (OER, half-reaction of electrocatalytic water-splitting/ water oxidation) in alkaline media. Studying the electrocatalytic properties and stability of [M2(OH)2L]-type MOFs under OER conditions revealed that linker choice and coordination modulation impact the conversion kinetics and performance. Thus, my project aims to optimize the stability and activity of these type of MOFs for OER.
