NMR ist die leistungsfähigste Methode zur Untersuchung von Molekülen in Lösungen. Die Entwicklung neuer experimenteller Techniken ermöglicht es, die Auflösung und Empfindlichkeit von NMR-Experimenten deutlich zu verbessern. Dies trifft insbesondere für Anwendungen auf biologische Makromoleküle zu, wie z.B. Proteine oder Nukleinsäuren.

Darüber hinaus ist NMR ein ideales Testfeld für die Entwicklung und experimentelle Demonstration grundlegender Konzepte der Quanten-Informationsverarbeitung und der optimalen Steuerung von Quantenphänomenen.
