OMCBP
"Optimized microbial conversion of biomass residues for sustainable production of high value diterpene bio-actives"(OMCBP) is a german- canadian consortial project which aims to produce high valuable biologic active diterpenes like Pseudopterosins. Pseudopterosins are diterpene glycosides with anti-inflammatory properties, which offer a high marked potential in pharma and cosmetics industries. The actual demand for this compound is delivered by wild-harvesting of the soft coral Antillogorgia elisabethae. With an increasing marked, supply by wild harvested corals would lead to ecological damage and supply issues. Thus biotechnological production is a prerequisite for sustainable production.
Work at IBK: Within this project we aim to identify the key enzymes of the biosynthetic pathway of pseudopterosins from coral and other organisms and express them in a bacterial host. As a sustainable feed we use Straw hydrolysate of agricultural production to generate high valuable diterpene products.
