Research Areas
Prof. Plank (*1952) works in the field of inorganic binders (cement, silicates, aluminates, phosphates, CaSO4 phases) and organic binders (latex dispersions, epoxy resins, polyurethanes). His lab is known worldwide for his research on chemical admixtures for concrete and mortar (superplasticizers including polycondensates, polycarboxylates (PCEs), accelerators, retarders, water-retention additives such as cellulose ethers, hydrophobic agents, e.g., siloxanes, biopolymers, etc.). Moreover, his current research is focused on the decarbonization of cement by studying low-carbon 'green' binders and carbon capture & storage (CCS). Overall, his research involves colloid chemistry, interface and surface phenomena as well as nanochemistry (nanomaterials and composite materials).
